Challenge
When booking for Broadsign, it is required to select at least one Audience or Geo-Targeting criteria, before successfully booking your Campaigns and AdSets. How can you set these up in ADvendio? And is there a way to set defaults or modify these criteria later directly on Broadsign?
Solution
To support you with setting up a basic targeting for your Broadsign booking, we added some simple possibilities.
For a start you are able to set in ADvendio:
Audiences, Custom Audiences and Lookalike Audiences to target
Geo-Targeting (Countries, Regions or Cities)
Pages (required for certain bookings and goals, such as Brand Awareness Campaigns)
The easiest way to set this up is to use some specific fields we have provided in our Media Buying Extension, which are called Target Page, Target Custom Audience and Target Location
...
These can help your users quickly select a single Page, Custom Audience or Country to target for your Broadsign booking. Using the lookup fields, your users will get a filtered list of options to select from.
Your Admin is also able to further define default selections (for example with Salesforce Flows).

Please be aware that the example fields we provide only work with a single selection (you can not for example select two countries to target) and for Geo only provides a list of countries. More detailed option can be customized. You can contact your Technical Account Manager if you’d like an offer on how we can further support you! |
Are you able to modify these settings on Broadsign and what do you need to keep in mind?
Yes, you are able, even after booking on Broadsign, to modify the audience targeting of your Ad Set. This way your users are able to define a more sophisticated targeting and also directly check the impact on your potential reach.

Please be aware that selected Pages for your Ad Set can not be changed once they have been pushed! |
Setup
To use these fields from our Media Buying Extension, you will need to make sure that your users have read and edit permissions for the following fields, as well as add targeting fields (Target Page, Target Location, Target Custom Audience) to any page layouts:
BuysideAdv__TargetCustomAudience__c
BuysideAdv__TargetLocation__c
BuysideAdv__TargetPage__c
BuysideAdv__ConnectionHelper__c
ADvendio__SelectedTargeting__c
These are all located on the ADvendio__BuyingItem__c object.
Your users will also require permission to run flows, as the Buying Extension uses a flow to run its logic in the background:
...
To check if everything is working fine, after selecting and saving a record, our logic will write a technical string into the Selected Targeting field on your Buying Item. This represents the targeting information to be sent to Broadsign and looks similar to this:
...
The use of these Targeting features, requires to import of the relevant IDs from Broadsign which can be done with our Transfer to ADvendio feature: 3.5.3 How to import and sync targeting information and ids from connected systems with ADvendio? Can you reserve inventory in ADvendio for your planned Broadsign campaigns and set them live later?
...
Solution
You can resolve this issue and gain more flexibility in managing your Broadsign Campaigns within ADvendio by using our feature “Update Ad-Status in AdServer”.
Info |
---|
By default, when Items are pushed to Broadsign, they are in the saved or draft status. This means they are not actively running or booked yet. This gives you the opportunity to make any necessary modifications and changes before finalizing and activating them. |
ADvendio Ad Server statuses:
You have the option to choose one of three statuses for a Proposal Item: Active, Paused, and Reserved.
Active status means that the Proposal Item is booked in Broadsign and the assigned Screens are reserved and actively running.
Paused status for Proposal Item temporarily removes the reserved status and brings it back to its previous draft state.
Reserved status means that the Proposal Item is on hold and the assigned Screens are reserved and blocked for other bookings.
ADvendio Ad Server Status | Broadsign Proposal Line Status |
---|---|
Active | submitted |
Paused | saved but is on hold and not active |
Reserved | on hold and not active |
There is a predefined flow of actions in the system that you can take with your items:
For a Paused item, you have the option to set it as active or reserved.
For a Reserved item, you can choose to set it as paused or active.
Note |
---|
Once an item is set as Active, its status cannot be changed anymore. |
