Challenge:

Creating a Preferred Deal Item and submitting it to Google Ad Manager as a proposal Item can be a complex task. It can be difficult to understand the necessary steps to set up a Programmatic Guaranteed Deal for Google.

Solution:

To create a Preferred Deal Item and submit it as a proposal Item to Google Ad Manager, the steps are similar to setting up a Programmatic Guaranteed Deal. The proposal Item can be later turned into regular line items.

Please note that due to current limitations from Google AdManager, you can either plan your Media Campaigns with Programmatic Guaranteed Items or with Preferred Deals, a combination of both as Campaign Items will likely result in an error during submit.

  1. Create a Media Campaign and set the field value of AdServer Order Type to Proposal.

  2. Create Campaign Item for GAM with Preferred deal as AdType (This can be defined on the Ad Type object, but also set individually on your Campaign Item)

  3. Campaign Item field Ad Information > Minimum Quantity > Please set a value. It will be used as Estimated Impressions in Google

  4. Campaign Item field Quantity. Preferred Deal Bookings for Google AdManager do not have a defined end goal / quantity to reach, it is instead used whatever is purchased by the buyer. You can either set as Quantity the number of Impressions you’d like to reach OR you can set a placeholder value and during runtime update the quantity with what has been actually delivered (to have the Campaign Item Amounts represent the revenue) → Please note that the placeholder quantity should be at least 1.000, otherwise the price calculation might not work and send an invalid CPM rate over to Google.

There is currently no out of the box flow to update the Campaign Item Quantity with the delivered impressions, please contact your Account Manager or our support team, so we can discuss customization options.
