Third Party Integrations: Problems with Encryption Errors (AdServer, Media Buying, Programmatic)

Overview

ADvendio uses encryption to securely store sensitive credentials such as passwords, tokens, or other sensitive data. This process ensures that no plaintext information is stored in the system, maintaining the security of your data and integration workflows.

While ADvendio usually handles this encryption automatically, there are instances where unexpected behavior may occur. If any credentials or tokens are not correctly encrypted, you might encounter the following error messages:

  • No active connection found

  • Received data is corrupted or not encrypted

These errors indicate that the affected fields are either empty or contain unencrypted values.

Impact

This issue can prevent successful communication between ADvendio and third-party integrations such as AdServers, Media Buying platforms, or Programmatic services, causing disruptions in automated workflows and data exchange.

What could happen is that after installing ADvendio Version 2.171, if you already had a value in the Access Token field, that this value remains not encrypted. This could even affect Connections, which are not using Access Tokens for authentication.

Affected Fields

This issue might affect the following fields in ADvendio:

  • Password

  • Additional Password

  • Access Token

If you are experiencing encryption-related errors, please checBildschirmfoto 2024-10-02 um 10.59.52.png k these fields to ensure that:

  1. The fields are not empty.

  2. The stored values are properly encrypted.

Recommended Solution

If you experience similar problems, especially after installing 2.171, please check your connection record credential fields.

  1. Navigate to the affected field (e.g., Password, Additional Password, or Access Token) in your ADvendio setup. Attention: This might require to show missing fields in your Page Layouts

  2. Review the field content:

    • If the field is empty, it’s ok

    • If the value appears in plaintext, edit the field and clear it.

    • re-enter the former value to trigger the encryption process again.

  3. Save the updated field and re-test the integration to verify the issue is resolved.

Additional Information

If the issue persists even after updating the fields, it is recommended to:

  1. Clear the affected fields.

  2. Re-enter the credentials as new values.

  3. Save the changes and reattempt to connect.
