6.5.1.1 Accounting Rule Hierarchy

Which Accounting Rule is applied depends on where the rule ranks in terms of our defined hierarchy. The more "detailed" or specific a rule is, the higher it gets prioritised over other less detailed, general rules. This has been implemented using a weighting mechanism in the Accounting Record Creation Process:

This means that if you have multiple rules that could apply to the same Item, the Accounting Record Creation process will use the rule with the highest weight.

If there is more than one rule with the same 'highest' weight, a warning will be shown in the logfile and action will need to be taken by the user before Accounting Records can be created for the related items.

Example:

You have two rules which map the site ABC to your accounting system:

  1. Site ABC with Placement DEF - has to be booked to Account No 12345

  2. Site ABC - has to be booked to Account No 54321

Any record which also matches the Placement in the first rule will be assigned to Account No 12345. All without to Account No 54321.
