Real-World Blocking Examples

Placement Blocking

Example:

...

  1. Imagine a newspaper that wants to distribute its edition in various geographical regions, countries, or subdivisions, such as North, South, or smaller units.

...

  1. When they sell the placement (Placement Blocking) for the northern region, it means that no one else can purchase the same spot for

...

  1. any of the countries.

...

AdType Blocking

Example:

  1. Your periodical has a loose insert with a maximal weight of AdType of 100g. You can also sell other smaller AdTypes with less weight. But selling a 60g AdType would block the bigger inserts and decrease the overall values of 100g by 60g so that 40g would be left.

  2. Full page layout blocks all single AdType. So AdType 1, 2, 3 and 4 will get an entry to block the full page.

AdSpec Blocking

Examples:

...

  1. Consider a scenario where you want to sell a particular inventory to customers in both the US and Europe.

...

  1. Since the customers belong to different regions, you need to have two active AdPrices with different currencies and prices for the same AdSpec.

...

  1. However, once

...

  1. the inventory has been

...

  1. sold to either the US

...

  1. or European

...

  1. customer, it must be blocked for the other

...

  1. customer. This means that the AdSpec must prevent itself from being sold twice.

  2. If a full-page (1/1

...

  1. ) ad blocks a double-page spread (2/1) on one side, the other full

...

  1. -page ads on the

...

  1. opposite side must also be

...

  1. blocked.

...

  1. This can be

...

  1. achieved by using Ad Spec blocking records.

This AdSpec is sold in US Dollar Dollars and Euro Euros on two different price lists. But once sold it can't be sold at another price. Therefore it also has a self-blocking record.Image Removed

...

If I sell it now to one customer for a specific day the booking calendar will show it as blocked so that I can't double book.

Here is what the booking calendar for that item will look like.

Note

Please make sure to include the column AdSpec Name into the layout otherwise the second line would not show in red!

Content Blocking

Example 1:

You have Advertising placements which you would like to sell in different locations, like Airport Arrivals, Departure or Airport overall. Selling the overall Content would then block the Departures and Arrival from being booked

For example:With , with the following content blocking in place

and a confirmed booking for Content HAM - Banner Complete 01/08/2019 - 31/08/2019, the booking calendar would show the followingImage Removed(Complete).

Example 2:

Self-blocking

Example Out-of-Home : One AdPrice with a Placement "single sided" is blocking Blocking Example:

Self-blocking is used in advertising that refers to a situation where an ad placement with a single-sided setting blocks itself. This means that is availability decrease once it has been booked. Other line items with the same AdPrice, but the same Placement will be blocked, if you have created , its availability decreases. If you create a blocking record for the placement to block "single-sided" with "single-sided" (itself). The Position Chart will handle this as if , then other line items with the same AdPrice and Placement will also be blocked. This blocking record will be treated as a "real" Blocking blocking record with factor 1 existsby the Booking Calendar.
