Solution

The article will give an overview of Broadsign and highlights specific parts of Broadsign. To be able to prepare the AdButler Media Campaign you need to create Ad Specs first.

The general Goal is: to create Ad Spec, combine it with the Ad Type created for Broadsign assign a price, and assign an Inventory.

Steps to create Broadsign Media Campaign:

1) Setting Inventory Targeting criteria

IMPORTANT: Please make sure your Broadsign Connection is set up and that you have imported at least one inventory targeting criteria and also Account data.

Select the inventory and targeting criteria needed when you are on Broadsign record and when using the ‘Transfer to ADvendio’ feature.

Steps to do:

1) Select the ‘Connections’ feature in the main menu

2) Select a relevant Connection (we use Connection ASL-004 as an example)

3) Use the ‘Transfer to ADvendio’ feature in the upper right corner

Link the Ad Spec to a Zone or a Channel for Display Items. Link Ad Spec to VAST Zone or VAST Channel (VAST Channel for Video Items).

In order to link this to a Zone or Channel, you will first need to import Connection IDs via Transfer to AdServer (pressing the 'Transfer to ADvendio’ button).

After ‘Transfer to Advendio’ is done you will see the completed results report:

If you do not assign Inventory Targeting on your Ad Spec, you can also select them directly on your Campaign Item, via Inventory Targeting features in the Media Config/Campaign Builder on a Campaign Item level.

2) Creating Ad Type

The Ad Type will structure the different formats and types of Ads for Broadsign. It's up to the customer to decide if to use a ‘Standard’ Ad Type (Display Ad Type used for images and text) or to use a VAST item (used for video Ads).

You will find detailed guidance on creating and configuring Ad Types for Broadsign: 7.3.5.2 How to configure formats for AdButler-related products (Ad Types) in ADvendio

3) Creating Ad Spec and assigning it to Ad Type

Ad Specs represent a product in ADvendio that your users or sales reps will later use for media configuration to select available Ad Specs and Ad Types to create their campaign items. This is the information you need to consider when creating Ad Specs for Broadsign.

Ways to create Ad Specs:

Generally, there are three ways to create Ad Specs in Advendio:

1) Using the ‘Ad Specs and Rates management’ option

2) Creating Ad Specs Manually

3) Using the ‘Inventory & rates manager' option

One of the ways to create Ad Specs is to access the main menu and create from ‘Ad specs and rates manager’.

When creating Ad Spec from the ‘Ad Specs and Rates management’ menu option:

  • Connect the Ad Spec to a Site, then Placement, which represents in which media or websites you want your Ad to be displayed. Select Broadsign created Ad Type.

  • Press ‘Create/ Open Ad Spec’.

4) Defining Ad pricing

  • Create an Ad Price for the Ad Spec: This represents which price per unit you want to sell the ad to your customer. Choose from Broadsign billing categories.

A number of categories are valid for Broadsign You can use the following Billing Categories: CPM, CPC, CPA or Fixed Price (when you use CPC, ADvendio will set a number of Clicks instead of a number of Impressions as the goal for your item).

The Price you’re using in ADvendio will also be sent to Broadsign which will be using this information to prioritize bookings against each other, in order for those which sell higher will be more likely to deliver.

Setting Inventory Targeting Rules:

You can use our Inventory Targeting feature to select the Zones of your product: This is important to tell Broadsign, where an Ad should be displayed.

This information is essential and is required for a Broadsign booking. Please also keep in mind, that your AdType determines which kind of Zones and Channels to use:

Display formats are using regular Zones and Channels, while Video/VAST-type products need to be connected to VAST Zones or VAST Channels.

Correcting Inventory Targeting in AdServer:

You can go to the ‘AdServer Information’ section below and correct the Inventory Targeting information:

You can edit or correct inventory targeting at this stage in the section under ‘AdServer Information’, you will see 'Default zone” assigned.

Adserver ‘Default Zone’('Default Zone' is just an example data, you will see different data assigned to your project) this information represents where the Ad is to be displayed.

You can assign on a campaign level too, or you can preconfigure Inventory Targeting.

To update Targeting info, please access ‘Edit Adserver ID’ and make the necessary changes.
