Reasons for Inventory Blocking

Why is it necessary to block inventory?

When your inventory is not clearly defined and unique, it may be necessary to block some inventory if others have already been sold. This could be due to the following reasons:

  1. physical reasons, such as overlapping inventory items

  2. political reasons, where certain slots will not sell if others have already been taken.

For example, if you have the option to sell a page in your periodical as either two half pages or one whole page, selling one or the other to a customer would limit your available offers.

ℹ️ To block inventory, use ADvendio's "blocking inventory" objects and related lists.

Types of blocking

ADvendio can manage the following blocking types:

  1. Placements

  2. AdTypes

  3. AdSpecs

  4. Content

The process is easy and identical for all four objects.

How to set up blocking

Related List for Blocked Placements, AdType, AdSpecs, Contents

First, the administrator should add the related lists to the respective object's layout. For example, add Blocked Placements to the Placement Layout.

Create Blocked Placements, AdTypes, Ad Specs, Content Records

To create Blocked Placements, Ad Types, Ad Specs, or Content Records, follow these simple steps:

  1. Navigate to the app and select the category you want to block: "Blocked Placements," "Blocked Ad Types," "Blocked Ad Specs," or "Blocked Content."

  2. In the new window, add the related list to your page layout and define which record blocks it:

    • Master Placements, Ad Specs, Ad Types, or Content (depending on the category selected)

    • Blocked Placements, Ad Specs, Ad Types, or Content (depending on the category selected)

    • Blocking Factor

  3. Save to apply your changes.

You can do it only one way using master and dependent records or create two records if they both block each other.

Blocked booking example:

In the "Booked Inventory" section, when you see Contending Items highlighted in red, keep these statuses in mind:

  • BLOCKED: This means that half of a full page is reserved in the calendar, and it's highlighted in red.

  • BOOKED: This indicates that your Media Campaign has been scheduled, including a reservation for half of a page.

In the booking calendar, not only will your booked product be labelled as "Booked or Offered” (positions are offered at each stage)," but the Blocked product (half page) will also appear as "Booked/ Offered." The details section will provide information about the Contending Campaign, which is the product booking.

When you check the booking calendar, you will see that not only your booked product is marked as "Booked or Offered," but the Blocked product (which takes up half a page) will also appear as "Booked/ Offered." The details section of the calendar will provide you with information about the Contending Campaign, which refers to product booking.

ℹ️ Products blocked by the Blocking feature will have a red background in the Contending section, while directly blocked items will have a white background behind the Contending items.

In our example when two half pages are reserved, they jointly block one full page with a blocking factor of 0.5.

Important information:

Please note that Blocked Ad Types only apply to the same Placement, not across different Placements.

Blocking Factor

Constant Quantity = Quantity (When the constant quantity equals the quantity, they are considered the same.).

Rounding

Always round to the nearest integer using the following guidelines:

Value

round

Value

Example

Booked

up

0,000001

1

Offered

up

0,000001

1

Available

down

0,000001

0

If the Constant Quantity is either Frequency or Guaranteed AI, the system will not round the value.

Overbooking

In the booking calendar, only the blocked Ad Spec or AdPrice will be marked as over-booked, and there shouldn't be any negative values carried over to the next level.

Setup

The administrator must add the related lists to the respective object. For example, add Blocked Placements to your Placement Layout.
