You are using Google AdManager to sell Programmatic Guaranteed Inventory to your buyers and now you want to manage these proposals and proposal line items also from ADvendio.

How do you need to configure your system in order to support this? And are specific Ad Specs required or can you use the ones you use for your regular Campaign Items?

With ADvendio

version 2.146, we’re using a new Google AdManager API. This requires to change your product configuration on Ad Types and Ad Specs for Programmatic Guaranteed.

See the section below on Inventory Type and Mobile Device Targeting to see how your product configuration needs to look. The old configuration of using the Marketplace Environment field will not be supported anymore.

We are required to do this, since the Google API is deprecating an old settings for Programmatic Guaranteed and now requires to use these targeting options.

Can I reuse Ad Specs and Ad Type from my regular Google items?

Yes you can do so, since most of the settings regarding format and delivery are the same! However you are required to use certain inventory and device targeting settings for Programmatic Guaranteed, which will also be applied to regular line items, but are not required to use!

You need to confirm with your AdOps team if those settings will have any implications on the delivery of regular line items, otherwise we recommend creating your own Ad Specs for Programmatic Guaranteed!

Configure your Item Type and Goals

The basic configuration, for the priority of an item, the goal type (impression goal or sponsorship) and many other settings are the same as with regular line items. See our Ad Type description to get an overview, what you can do.

Setting up Video or Display Items

For your line items, it’s of course crucial, where your item is running. If it’s a video or a display ad, if it’s for mobile or desktop. This setting is the same

For those there are two fields. Environment Type sets the line item type:

  • Browser for Display Ads

  • Video Player for Video Ads

Configure Inventory Type and Mobile Device Targeting (Version 2.146 and up)

This is a required step for Programmatic Guaranteed items in Google AdManager. In order to set up, where and on which devices an ad runs, there are two options for Google AdManager.

  • The Inventory Type Targeting

  • the mobile device capabilities

Inventory Type configures, if your item is targeted for Display inventory or Mobile inventory. For this ADvendio offers to select inventory type targeting in our targeting features:

The three available options in ADvendio will create items with the following settings in Google AdManager. The relevant options, depend on whether a Video or a Browser item is selected as Environment.

Please be aware that it is only possible to select a single inventory type for Programmatic Guaranteed items in Google AdManager. If you select multiple we will use the first one we get or the Submit to Adserver will result in an error.

Attention:

Additionally to the inventory type targeting, you will also have to select Mobile Device Capability in the device targeting, otherwise the Programmatic Guaranteed Items will not be created in Google AdManager!

For this simply, either include or exclude the option ‘Mobile Devices’ in your Device Capability targeting

Which option you need, depends on your inventory type.

  • Inventory Type = Display, then exclude Device Capabilities Mobile Apps

  • Inventory Type = Mobile, then include Device Capabilities Mobile Apps

  • Inventory Type = Video does not require any additional settings

So how do you set the inventory targeting up?

You can let your users select the options via the inventory targeting and device targeting features in our Media Configuration

However to save time and since these settings will be the same for most Programmatic Guaranteed Items you want to submit, we recommend to preconfigure the targeting on your Ad Specs.

For this simply create Connection ID AdSpec Assignment on the related products. By doing so, the ADvendio Media Configuration will also show this and prevents users from changing the configuration.

3. Set up include or exclude of Mobile Apps capabilities

There is one specific setting regarding the Proposal Line Items in Google Ad Manager. As soon as you either use Display or Mobile as Inventory Type, Google AdManager automatically sets the option for device capability targeting to either include or exclude ‘Mobile Apps’

To prevent this, there is the possibility to create a Connection ID AdSpec Assignment on the related products. By doing so, the ADvendio Media Configuration will also show this and prevents users from changing the configuration.

In order to use these features you will need a working connection to your Google AdManager in ADvendio: 7.3.1.5 How to connect an AdServer / SSP to ADvendio?

To set up the inventory types and device capabilities, you will need to make sure to sync the required targeting IDs from Google to ADvendio. This can be done with our import features.
